MasteryConnect is a web-based platform accessible on Macintosh, Windows, and Chrome-based operating systems—no hardware installation is required. All you need is an HTML-5 compliant web browser and an internet-connected desktop, laptop, Chromebook, mobile device, or tablet such as Apple’s iPad.
Minimum Hardware Recommendations
For best performance, you should access MasteryConnect with a computer that supports the most recent browser versions. It is recommended to use a computer five years old or newer with at least 1GB of RAM.
MasteryConnect only requires an operating system that can run the latest compatible web browsers. Your computer operating system should be kept up-to-date with the latest recommended security updates and upgrades.
Along with compatibility and web standards, MasteryConnect has been carefully crafted to accommodate low bandwidth environments. It is recommended to have a minimum Internet speed of 512kbps.
MasteryConnect supports the current and first previous major releases of the following browsers:
- Chrome 97 and 98
- Firefox 96 and 97 (Extended Releases are not supported*)
- Edge 97 and 98
- Respondus Lockdown Browser (supporting the latest system requirements)
- Safari 14 and 15 (Macintosh only)
You should always use the most current version of your preferred browser. Your browser will notify you if there is a new version available.
Other browsers may work; however, we can't guarantee an optimal user experience. Some browsers may require additional configuration for optimal use.
Enterprise Extended Release Browsers
Chrome and Firefox offer extended release versions for organizations that manage client desktops. Chrome ESR can be kept up-to-date with the existing full version of Chrome at any time. However, Firefox ESR is only updated with every seventh major version, which causes Firefox ESR to overlap with outdated versions. The Firefox ESR webpage notes that ESR may not be supported in every web application because of this version release delay. Institutions who use Firefox ESR should consider deploying the latest release to ensure the best MasteryConnect user experience.
Known Browser Behaviors
Like all MasteryConnect features, contrary behaviors relating to browsers are prioritized by our product teams, and some behaviors in the previous version may not be resolved. If a behavior exists in the previous version of the browser that does not exist in the current version, the best solution is to update to the newest browser version.

Traffic Prioritization (for QoS)
Accessing MasteryConnect's standard and expanded services requires that you configure your firewall to allow certain domains.
To fully optimize performance, improve latency, and increase usable bandwidth for our services, it may be necessary to implement bandwidth management and traffic shaping software; this way you can prioritize the traffic on your network.
Of the sites needing to be allowed, we recommend that
masteryconnect.com* has its traffic prioritized for quality of service.
* Needs to be wildcarded to unblock all subdomains.
By default, GradeCam allows scanning on Windows, Macintosh, Chrome OS*, and Linux without installing the plugin; this is called No Plugin Mode.
* Scanning with GradeCam is available on Chromebooks; exporting scores is unavailable.
The MasteryConnect interface is optimized for desktop displays. Using small-screen devices such as phones may result in a suboptimal experience in MasteryConnect.
